Supercross Qualifying

Ivan Tedesco got a great jump out of the gate on the VMS/Rockstar/Yamaha, but MotoConcepts/Yamaha’s Dan Reardon snuck around the outside to take the holeshot in his first ride back since crashing at Anaheim I. Not far behind, San Manuel/Yamaha’s Josh Hill was looking strong aboard his San Manuel/Yamaha, but a persistent Reardon was not ready to give up his position. After several laps, Hill was able to make the pass, with Davi Millsaps following suit only one turn later. Out front, Tedesco looked very comfortable but Hill was closing quickly. In the long rhythm section before the second triple, Hill clearly had a better line, catching then passing IT in the following turn. At the finish, Millsaps looked strong and almost had Tedesco in the final turn for second, but was shut down by the number nine machine, going down in the last turn. After Hill took the heat win, Millsaps was able to remount for third.

Heat 2

The first turn came down to Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey and Kevin Windham, with the veteran Geico Powersports/Honda rider getting a better drive to the first triple.  Windham was clearly comfortable in the messy conditions but was hounded ever closer by a poised and confident Ryan Dungey. Further back, Andrew Short, Nick Wey, and Justin Brayton were holding down the top five. Back out front, Dungey kept applying the pressure until he was able to finally make the move when Windham failed to clear the first triple and Dungey made the leap. Dungey held on for the win, but Windham certainly served notice that he was ready for the main.

Supercross LCQ
Jason Thomas took the lead off of the start and never looked back. Behind the leader, Bobby Bonds and Justin Keeney fought for a few laps before Keeney relinquished the final transfer position to the former WORCS champ.

Supercross Main Event

With a burst of flames, the 450s burst off of the line. Nick Wey and Ryan Dungey had the best jumps, but Wey edged out the Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki pilot.  But things instantly got worse for Dungey, as his front end pushed into the first turn, forcing him to the ground. The fall also took down Ryan Villopoto and Tommy Hahn, and allowed Monster Kawasaki’s Nick Wey, and Red Bull Honda teammates Davi Millsaps and Andrew Short to jump out to the lead. To make matters worse, Dungey would fall again before the first lap was completed, making his climb back to the front a long journey.

Wey would go onto lead the first few laps, but eventually felt the pressure from Millsaps and gave up the lead. Eventually Wey began to fade back, as Millsaps seemed comfortable in the lead with Short closing in slowly, lap after lap, and Tedesco was not far behind. Josh Hill made his presence known with his typical aggressive riding style, but Kevin Windham would not let him out of his sights, and the two traded positions a few times as the laps clicked off.

In the closing laps, Short looked to have second place wrapped up until a scary panic-revved crash over the first triple took him out of the race, handing second over to Tedesco, who was quickly over taken by Josh Hill. At the finish, Millsaps took his first win since 2008, with Hill and Tedesco rounding out the podium.  Villopoto and Dungey both put in commendable performances and salvaged valuable points for the championship.
