Race Report - SouthwickTuesday, 1 September 2009 Since wrapping up the title last week at Budds Creek, Chad Reed came into Southwick looking to have fun and finish the season on a high note. After easily winning the first moto over fellow Australians Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jake Moss and Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki’s Michael Byrne, Reed came out in the second, took the early lead, and began pulling away. Near the halfway mark, however, Reedy hit a kicker on the landing of the finishline jump, violently spitting him over the bars and forcing him out of the race. Reed withdrew from the race; however, he left under his own power without assistance from the Asterisk Mobile Medic crew. With that, Yamaha’s Matt Goerke took over the lead while Southwick local John Dowd moved into third. The finishing order in the second moto saw Goerke take his first-ever moto win and overall victory while 44 year-old Dowd finished third overall. Taking the runner-up position in the overall was Michael Byrne. OVERALL RESULTS: 2009 Lucas Oils AMA Motocross Championships (After 11 of 12 rounds): Check out the full article here...
